Hi Len

Been meaning to get back to you. Spent the 2nd half of October surfing in Bali and giving the board a good workout. I only surfed Legian (for family reasons). First thing I can say is that I’ve never caught so many waves! Waves ranged from knee to head high plus, and the board felt good in all conditions. Really started to get a feel for things after a few days, the foam through the back of the board gave me some room for error which let me try and surf a bit freer. In short very much stoked.

I wasn’t’ to stoked with the turkey who ran over me and put his fin through my board, which required a ding repair.

Nick

Len

Steve bought my board up on Monday and I was able to use it Tuesday in waist high swell. It performed sensationally - paddled easier, much faster and so much more responsive than my last board it was unbelievable. We were out for about 4 hours and my wave count was much higher than normal. Thank you so much for this board and also in explaining how and why you designed it, give it a few months and I think I’ll be back for another.

Cheers

Subject: Jason's Surfboard - BLUE FISH

Hi Len,

What can I say? I have been in Bali for three days and had three decent surfs. Two on the 6'5 and this morning was the maiden voyage on the 6'10. It was only six foot at Kuta Reef but I was busting to give it a try and thought the swell was going to be bigger. It is definately my favorite of the two and I am stoked to be paddling around on thicker boards. It generally is making each surf so much more fun with paddling into waves a breeze compared to what I am used to and it leaves so much more energy for a longer surf. Especially seeings as though I have started the trip completely un-surf fit except for the god send of Yoga. The difference in duck diving is negligible. I can't wait for some bigger waves for the 6'10 as it just feels so comfy under my feet. I am finding the shorter board a little harder to maneuver but I think I just need to re-adjust my style a little....and yes I have placed the fins right back to loosen it up. After saying that it handled six foot airport lefts easily and would happilly ride it in a bigger surf. I am stoked with what you have created for me and will only get more comfy on them as the days go on...... Before leaving Perth I was so busy and only had on small surf which was not worth reporting and was out of sheer anxiousness to get on in the water.

So cheers again Len. I can see why so many write great words about your workmanship.

Sincerely,
Asko

Len,

I am really happy with the the beautiful BLUE fish - BLUE, she works perfectly for 75% of the conditions I surf in here in the Netherlands - chest - head high wind swell (often onshore). I have taken her out in all conditions and even tried it as a twin fin.

BLUE works best for me in better waves with a bit of push, and even a bit hollow. She holds the rail well in these waves, is fast down the line and turns well in the pocket. It feels like there is enough rocker to work well in these conditions and the vee bottom seems really stable on these pushier walling waves.

Blue Fish

Blue Fish

BLUE paddles and catches waves easily, and is good for my duck diving its also really durable I have ridden it about once a week since having it and so far it has only one travel ding near the nose, one deck ding from my knee in a wipeout, and one pressure ding on the bottom.

SO THE BOARD IS GREAT. THANKS A LOT LEN!

Oh yeah, BLUE also looks really great! – I get lot’s of comments of admiration and questions about where it is from and who made it. I think this will be a board I will have a long time, and that will grow with my surfing – riding her in different conditions, in new places, and gradually learning how best to ride her.

Cheers.

Subject: 6'9 Flyer Fish

G'day Lenno,

Just thought I'd let you know how the 6'9 fish is going. Coming down from my 7'7 LD, it took me a few waves to adjust to the reduced floatation and paddle power but after that I didn't miss a wave I paddled for. The extra speed and manoeuvrability that I'm getting from this board has really allowed me to take my surfing to a new level. The board has a really solid feel to it, it handles the drop really well and the slightly refined rails you suggested have really made a difference in manoeuvrability. Another really solid board Leno, needless to say I'll be back for number 4 around Christmas time (the new Surf Machines look sweet)! I really appreciate the time and effort you put into this one, especially with the flame spray! I know that wasn't easy to do! It was also great to sit in with you again in the first stages of shaping, it really gave me an appreciation for all the elements that go into making a board. Take care of yourself mate, and I'll see you in December. You're the master!

Scotty

G'Day Lenno

As I said on the phone last week below is a pic from my mobile phone camera taken Sunday 11/01/04 at Trigg after a session in Knee high waves on my new board with Phil who was on his 9'6' Len Dibben.

Mate my new 9" big red is bloody fantastic, turns a treat and as stable as my 10 foot LD.
The nose width is perfect and the wider square tail you talked me into is the best. The balance is excellent, rails slice without effort and the volume is perfect, I didn't miss a wave I paddled for.

Thanks Len another magic board, you are the Master!.

Will let you know how it goes when I get into some decent waves, I'm sure I will be deliriously happy with its performance in any wave.

Thanks again, Talk soon.

DEAR LEN

Hope everything went well with your operation and you’re on way to recovery

I just got back from Bali and thought you would like to know how happy I’m with the board you shaped me before I left.

I can say with extreme pleasure can say it was one of the highlights of my trip. I surfed three different locations Kuta reef, Bingin and Impossibles ranging from 3 to 8 foot plus and I can honestly say I haven’t surfed with so much confidence before and I owe all to my new board, it performed well beyond my expectations. You can guarantee it will be the first thing packed on future trips to come.

The one on one time in your shaping bay was fantastic and well worth the time, also gave me some insight and knowledge that I’ll never forget.

Any way credit where credit is due you did a fantastic job and I couldn’t be happier

Anyway hope this finds you well and I’ll see you in the near future

THANKS AGAIN

Dear Len,

Just a quickie to again thank you for crafting me such a beautiful machine. I've had a few local surfs on it and took it down to Tim's Thicket the other day for a few left handers. It's yet to get a real workout as the swell's been so lackluster of late but from the few sessions I've had on it, it promises great things. It seems to have some great guts in the middle, and the 50/50 rails make a real difference when going for those bottom turns.

I was remarking to a friend the other day that in the past few weeks I've begun surfing closer to the way I've always imagined I would like to. In part it's because of the hours I've been putting in over the last year, but this new board is really working well with my style. I can honestly say that I've had some of my best rides to date in the few sessions I've had on it - it really is beautiful, Len.

Once again, thank you for putting in the hours on this board - I mean, I know you do it for a living but there is truly a masterful touch here that I haven't ever felt with a board. I look forward to the autumn and winter when I can really get some hours in on it.

In closing, I just want to wish you all the best for the work on your hip, and as speedy and full a recovery as possible. In the meantime, my offer stands for any help you may need with odd jobs until you're back in the shop.

Cheers
